Doyle Brunson History, profile, and background
Doyle Brunson is regarded as one of the most famous poker players in the entire world, and ranks at the top of all other legends of poker. He wears 10 World Series of Poker bracelets, ranking him at number two along side Johnny Chan and one behind Phil Hellmuth Jr. (11) in terms of number of bracelets won. Not only is Doyle Brunson known for his outstanding poker playing history, but he is also famous for producing two outstanding poker books called "Super System I" and "Super System II". Doyle Brunson was born in Longworth, Texas in 1933. He has three children, and his son is a professional poker player as well. Before Doyle Brunson made it as a poker great, he had a successful basketball career, but he sustained a knee injury that prevented him from continuing his sporting career and he turned to his love of poker to develop a career out of it. Doyle has a well known nickname, which is Texas Dolly. This nickname was given to him by accident by Jimmy Snyder after his name was misread as Dolly. Because he is from Texas, "Texas Dolly" just seemed to fit, and the nickname stuck.
Doyle Brunson is one of the legends of poker in a number of different fields. With Johnny Chan, he is tied for second for having the most bracelets from the World Series of Poker, as they each have a total of ten. Doyle was also the first poker player to win a $1,000,000 dollar poker tournament. He won the World Series of Poker in 1976, 1977. He has won the World Series of Poker in the No Limit Hold'Em World Championship, the Deuce to Seven Draw, the Seven Card Stud Split, the Mixed Doubles, the Seven Card Stud, No Limit Hold'Em, Seven Card Razz, H.O.R.S.E and 6 Hand No Limit Hold'Em.
Doyle Brunson's favorite game of poker is Texas Hold'Em poker, and it is the only high stakes game of poker that he will play. He can easily win or lose as much as $50,000 in a hand because minimum bets are often between $4000 and $8000. Doyle even recently started his own room for online poker, called Doyle's Room. He did this in conjunction with The Mad Genius of Poker, Mike, and The Robin Hood of Poker, Barry Greenstein.
Not only is Brunson known as one of the most famous poker players, but he's also so well known that he has two different poker hands named after him. The 10-2 suited and Ace-Queen suited hands are both named after him. He is also regarded as one of the legends of poker for writing one of the most popular poker books in publication today, Doyle Brunson's Super System. Though he is playing less professionally today, Doyle Brunson is still regarded as a professional poker player, running his famous poker room online and participating in the occasional poker tournament to keep his skills sharp.
